Herkimer Diamond

Herkimer Diamonds are beautiful double-terminated quartz crystals found in Herkimer, New York.  Incredibly, these phenomenal gemstones are completely raw and unpolished and are close to five hundred million years old!

Herkimer diamonds are not actually diamonds at all, yet they are called diamonds as they are naturally faceted by earth and resemble the sparkle and luster of a diamond without being cut and polished and without all the unethical ties to the diamond industry.

Each stone naturally forms with two points and around 18 facets. They can be exceptionally clear and colorless or they may be included with air bubbles or flecks of black carbon. If you are lucky, you will come across a stone with an en hydro inclusion - a bubble of water that was trapped in the crystal during its formation.
